Preparing For Your Motorcycle Road Trip

8/22/2014

Many motorcycle owners love their bikes because of the sense of freedom they give. Cars are boxed in; motorcycles are open. It's no surprise that the open road calls. A motorcycle road trip can be one of the most memorable adventures of your life. However, to ensure safety, they do require more planning than car road trips. Here are some things to consider when planning your motorcycle road trip.

  • Pack an emergency kit. Road trippers of all kinds should bring an emergency kit on their journey. This should include at least a first aid kit, flashlight, and toolkit.
  • Get your bike inspected. You can inspect your bike yourself for obvious signs of trouble, but it's imperative to have a professional inspection. Your bike breaking down on a road trip can be more than an inconvenience. If you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, it can be dangerous. Ensure your bike is in top working condition before departing.
  • Plan your trip. The freedom of a motorcycle road trip is exhilarating. However, don't get ahead of yourself. Setting out with no clear plan can lead to a trip that's anywhere from boring to dangerous.
